Nano and Mémé

Egypt - Poland - France

“I was lucky enough to get to know both my grandmothers. When I say ‘get to know’ I mean that lots of people have been alive at the same time as their grandmothers or grandparents, but maybe not that many have had the chance to be an adult while they were still alive.

I am thankful to the universe for that because otherwise I could not have shared with them what makes me, what are my origins, and what is the best food in the world!!

Nano (yes the main character of Grandmas Project’s video, is my grandmother) is from Egypt, and Mémé, as we used to call her, was born in Poland. Can you imagine how rich a heritage when you are born in France, such an amazing country, and the two families that created your own comes from the Middle East and Eastern Europe?

Just writing about the food itself could fill a whole book when it comes to talk about the cuisine of Nano and Mémé. A book that would smell, taste and overflow of Love. That’s one thing I’ve witnessed: food can taste ok, or good, or great. But the food that tastes the best is always the one that is filled with love.

My wife and I are still enjoying Nano’s food almost everyday thanks to her and her freezers, and how lucky are we that on top of putting every bits of love that circles in her body and soul she actually is the best cook living on this planet?!

I wish we could still enjoy dinners with Mémé. It would actually have brought my wife a bit closer to her home country of Sweden, as Polish and Swedish food have a lot of similarities. Life is not always like you want it to be and I am sure that wherever she is, Mémé is really happy that my wife and I are having dinner in the same flat and on the same table where we use to have our family dinners until she was not here anymore to cook for us …” – Ruben
